Clare council urged to move on new Chinese-Clare relations

It’s claimed that Clare County Council must ‘strike while the iron is hot’ in order to build on relationships between the MidWest and China, following the visit here of the country’s Vice President.

Images of some of Clare’s iconic sights, including the Cliffs of Moher and Bunratty Castle, were beamed across the world earlier this month when Vice President Xi Jinping spent time in the county, while Mayor of Clare Councillor Pat Hayes says he has been invited to make a return visit.

Local representatives are now calling on the County Council to investigate setting up a twinning arrangement between the Shannon Region and areas in China, in order to foster industrial, touriam and educational ties between the areas.

Sixmilebridge Councillor John Crowe feels the visit has presented Clare with a unique opportunity.
