Clare’s commercial vacancy rate has seen a marginal increase in the last year.
The latest report from Data Analysis firm Geo Directory shows that Shannon now has the second highest rate in the country, with Kilrush and Ennis both among the top ten in Munster.
The GeoDirectory Commercial Buildings Report for the second quarter of 2023, shows that Shannon recorded a vacancy rate of 29.4%, up 5.2% in the last year.
This means that Shannon now has the second highest rate of empty business or industrial units nationwide, having just been surpassed by Donegal’s Ballybofey in the last year, where a rate of 29.9% was registered.
Kilrush, had the second highest rate of empty business units in Munster at 24.5%
Ennis meanwhile was the eighth most vacant town in the province with its rate increasing to 18.7%
Overall, Clare recorded a countywide commercial vacancy rate of 15.7%, which is 1.6% above the national average.
The report also showed that more than half of all occupied units in this county were attached to businesses in the services industry.
Additionally in the last year, 24 premises in Clare that were previously used for accommodation or food use ended commercial activities.
