Clare Climate Activist Fears New Data Centre Rules Cannot Be Enforced

A Clare Climate Activist fears newly proposed regulations for data centres will be unenforceable.

The energy regulator is considering new measures that would allow data centres more freedom on where they locate so long as they produce as much electricity as they use and supply any excess to the national grid.

The facilities currently account for 21% of Ireland’s energy demand each year and is expected to reach 30% by 2030.

Scariff Futureproof Clare Spokesperson and University of Galway Lecturer Dr Sineád Sheehan has doubts about the plans.
