A Clare climate activist claims it’s a myth that data centres contribute positively to the Irish economy.
A new Friends of the Earth study has found that data centres, which now account for a fifth of Ireland’s electricity consumption, are “incompatible” with our climate commitments.

Roughly €15 billion has been invested in data centres in this country, with two thirds coming from Amazon, Microsoft, Meta and Google.
Ennis-based Futureproof Clare spokesperson Emanuela Ferrari says the majority of jobs at these facilities are low-paying and are created at the expense of the environment.
