A Clare childcare provider claims sustained pressure on providers to meet demand could be the cause for government hesitation to further reduce service costs.
It follows comments from the Taoiseach, which appear to have poured cold water over plans to increase childcare subsidies by an additional 25% in budget 2024.
There are currently 8,447 children availing of resources in Clare, representing 34% of the county’s under fifteen population, a rate marginally above the national average.
Claire Tuohy from Lifford Childcare Centre in Ennis believes the lack of regulated places available to cope with waiting lists is already thwarting state ambitions.
