A specialised Clare centre for adults has been described as ‘visibly dirty’ in a HIQA report released this week.
Health inspectors believe infection control measures at the Hillview facility near Ennis also need to be improved.
The unannounced inspection took place at the centre on the 4th January this year when four residents were present there.
Hillview was assessed in eight different areas of capacity and capability, as well as quality and safety, and was deemed not compliant in five of those.
These included staffing, governance and management, risk management procedures, infection protection and general protection measures.
There is plenty of praise for Hillview in the report from its residents however, who noted they felt very happy and safe in the centre while complementing the staff.
While the inspector noted the premises was in ‘good repair’ as well as being ‘warm’ and ‘well decorated’, they stated the outside of the kitchen cupboards had stains on them, while there was a smell from the bin and what was described as an ‘inadequate’ supply of cleaning products.
In response to concerns raised at the time of the inspection, Hillview say the areas concerned have been cleaned and sufficient cleaning products are available to meet requirements as needed.
