Clare Car Insurance Costs Described As “Madness”

The price of car insurance for Clare customers is being described as “madness”.

It’s after local Fianna Fáil TD Timmy Dooley hit out at the pace of the government’s measures to tackle the rising price of premiums and accused them of being Dublin-centric.

The continually climbing prices of insurance premiums have been the subject of much controversy in recent years.

In response to widespread anger, the government set up the Cost of Insurance Working Group was set up to tackle the inflation.

Clare Fianna Fáil TD Timmy Dooley says they’re not working fast enough – and he believes the west of Ireland in particular is bearing the brunt of the problem.

There’s also some discrepancy in the reported average price of motor insurance policies.

The Central Bank’s Private Motor Insurance Statistics report, which is based on data supplied by Insurance Ireland, claims Comprehensive cover rose by an average of 9% to €500 and third party fire & theft was up by 19% to €663 in 2015.

However, the latest figures from the CSO Consumer Price Index shows that the cost of motor insurance premiums rose by almost 31% that year.
