A Clare cancer survivor insists that the CervicalCheck screening programme has been proven effective in preventing cancer time and time again.
Ann Murphy, an Oncology Nurse from Tulla who overcame a battle with ovarian cancer, is reacting to new figures from the National Healthcare Quality Reporting System.
Only 72.9% of women in Clare availed of the CervicalCheck Screening programme between 2012 and 2017, which is well below the target rate of 80%, with only Laois, Kilkenny and Roscommon recording lower take-up rates.
Ann says the service is a very intimate one, which many women find intimidating, but she’s urging people not to confuse it’s track record with the under-reporting of false negatives that has made headlines in recent months.
