Clare Businesses Warned To Make Contingency The Only Plan

Shannon Chamber is warning businesses in Clare to make contingency THE plan – and not the backup, as concern builds about a no-deal Brexit.

Irish and EU officials are due to start discussing contingency plans next week, after a European Commission spokesperson confirmed it will enforce a hard border on the island of Ireland in the event of a no-deal.

The Taoiseach, meanwhile, has warned there is a “risk” customs checks could be operated in France or the Netherlands instead of in Ireland if Britain leaves without a deal.

This would remove the need for a hard border with the North, but would mean Ireland is treated the same as the UK for goods.
