A new initiative aimed at increasing mental well-being and social participation among those living with serious gastrointestinal or other issues is set to launch in Clare.
Loo4UClare draws inspiration from successful initiatives in other counties, which have seen local business providing their restrooms for public use, offering people with hidden disabilities and other urgent needs access.
It comes in response to ongoing calls from Crohn’s and Colitis Ireland (CCI) for greater accessibility to public restrooms and will see businesses recruited to display a sticker in their window, while an online map will also be established.
Co-founder and Chair of Loo4UClare, Jan Strozer is urging businesses to participate in the initiative, saying people with invisible disabilities shouldn’t be forced to explain the reasons behind their need to use basic facilities.
