Clare Bus Drivers have defended their decision to go on strike insisting they have been left with no other choice.
Bus Eireann staff are picketing outside the bus station on the Quin Road in Ennis this lunchtime in a national row with management over cuts to overtime and premium pay.
The company insists the cost saving measures are necessary but Speaking to Clare FM- these drivers say they cannot afford to take the reduction in their wages.
Meanwhile
There’s a warning that the strike action at Bus Eireann could escalate to include other semi-state transport firms.
A member of the NBRU’s National Executive says there is a ‘huge risk’ that members at Irish Rail and Dublin Bus may follow them on to the picket lines.
The Transport Minister Leo Varadkar is urging the union to re-engage in talks with management and Bus Eireann spokesperson Andrew McLindon says the dispute is costing them 200 thousand euro a day.
