A Co. Clare builder has been jailed for five years for lodging fraudulent VAT claims with the Revenue Commissioners.

34 year old Derek Floyd of Lower main Street, Tulla was convicted last March of knowingly filing incorrect VAT returns – in order to claim over 680-thousand euro from Revenue.
Sentencing him to five years in prison at Ennis Circuit Court today, Judge Ray Fulham said it should be noted that Revenue Fraud is not a "victimless crime".
