Clare Builder Believes Comprehensive Safe Pass Overhaul Would Reduce Workplace Accident Rate

A Clare builder claims the delivery of the Safe Pass training progamme needs to be overhauled to reduce workplace accidents.

The latest HSA figures show that construction accounted for the second highest rate of industrial fatalities in Ireland last year, with seven such incidents, while 794 injuries were reported in the same timeframe.

As it stands construction workers must complete a mandatory full-day safety awareness course every four years at a fee of over €90 before stepping foot on site.

Ciarán Breen from Ciarán Breen Construction in Ennis believes more frequent and cost effective refreshers are required to curb the trend.
