Clare’s birth rate fell by over 10% last Summer.
New CSO figures show that 2025 contained the second fewest births ever recorded in this county for the July to September period.
In total, 293 births were registered to Clare mothers in the third quarter of last year, representing the months of July to September.
This figure was only lower once during these months, when it plummeted to 290 in 2022.
Clare’s record for the July to September period came in 2009, when 509 births were registered.
The number of deaths recorded in Clare in the third quarter of last year, only showed a marginal decline however, falling from 247 to 243 in the space of a year.
27.5% of deaths here were attributed to circulatory diseases, a further 27% were listed as cancer related, 13% were defined as respiratory diseases , 8 deaths were listed as external causes of injury or poisoning, with 71 simply noted as “other causes”.
Overall, when births for the period are weighted against deaths, Clare’s population had a natural increase of 50.
