Clare Based Palestine Alliance Chair Claims Ireland Failing To Prevent Genocide In Gaza

The Clare-based Chair of Sadaka, the Ireland-Palestine Alliance, claims the Government is not fulfilling its obligations to prevent genocide in Gaza.

It comes as the United Nations is to consider a vote for an Israeli Trade Embargo following an IDF air strike which killed seven aid workers.
The bodies of seven members of the US World Food Kitchen were killed in one of the latest Israeli airstrikes in the enclave.

Among them are three UK nationals, one Polish national, one Australian, a US national and a Palestinian national.

The death toll in Gaza has now surpassed 33,000, with up to 75% of victims being civilian women and children.

The killing of aid workers, which the Israeli Defence Forces has described as a “grave mistake,” has triggered a renewed wave of international outrage.

On Friday, the UN’s Human Rights Council will consider a draft resolution put forward by Pakistan calling for an Israeli arms embargo.

Professor of Politics at DCU and Newmarket on Fergus Native, Donnacha Ó’Beacháin believes, though, that the United States can already exact leverage on Israel, by breaking their commercial and military ties.

The United Nations has announced it will be suspending night operations in Gaza for the next 48 hours to evaluate security following the attacks, as so far, 196 humanitarian workers have been killed since October 7th.

The Clare-based chair of Sadaka; the Ireland-Palestine Alliance believes, meanwhile, that Ireland is not fulfilling its obligations to prevent genocide in Gaza.

The Illegal Israeli Settlements Divestment Bill and Occupied Territories Bill have yet to pass through the second stage of the Dáil, despite being introduced well over a year ago.

But former Trócaire Director, Kilmaley native Eamon Meehan says that while the Government drags its heel’s on the bills, it’s indirectly funding resources for the Israeli war effort.
