A Clare-based former president of the Association of Secondary Teachers in Ireland says high income households shouldn’t be exempt from exam fees.
Having been waived since 2020, charges for sitting the Junior and Leaving Cert will be introduced from next year, costing parents, €109 and €116, respectively.

Students taking or repeating the Leaving Cert are exempt from the fees if they or their parents hold a medical card.
St Joseph’s Kilkee Community College teacher Geraldine O’Brien believes an upward sliding scale should be introduced whereby families that earn less pay less.
