Clare's ASTI representative remains hopeful that strike action which could close secondary schools can be avoided.
It comes as the teachers union ballots members on industrial action in a row over pay.
Schools across the country could face closures within weeks.
Secondary teachers with one of the country's main teaching unions say they won't tolerate staff being paid different salaries for doing the same work.
The ASTI says colleagues hired after 2010 aren't being paid enough.
It's also claimed they are due additional money for supervision and substitution work.
Peter Quinn, a teacher at St. Flannan's in Ennis, is the Clare representative on the ASTI's Standing Committee.
He insists members don't want to strike, but will be forced to do so if the government doesn't come back to talks.
However, the Education Minister says he can't see any reason for industrial action.
Richard Bruton says these issues have already been covered in talks with other unions.
