Clare ASTI Rep Claims Teaching Pay Inequality Has Continued For Too Long

Clare’s ASTI representative claims pay disparity in the teaching profession has been allowed continue for far too long.

The union has welcomed comments from Minister for Higher Education Mary Mitchell O’Connor who has said that she believes in equal pay for equal work – including for teachers.

The ASTI has recommeded that it’s members reject the new pay deal when they’re balloted in the coming weeks, over the failure to deal with inequal pay for new entrants who’ll be starting out on a lower salary than their peers next month.

Clare’s representative on the union’s Standing Committee and teacher at St Flannan’s College in Ennis, Peter Quinn has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that unequal pay is damaging the sector:
