Clare ASTI President Hails Common Sense Suspension Of Teacher Based Assessment

The Clare based President of the ASTI is describing the decision to suspend teacher based assessment at Senior Cycle as an urgent embracement of common sense.

At their annual conventions in April, members of both the Teachers Union of Ireland and ASTI voted unanimously to reject any proposal to introduce the measure.

Education Minister Norma Foley confirmed plans would be shelved today citing conerns over the growing use of artificial intelligence by students outside of an exam hall environment.

The Minister also announced that two new subjects would be added to the cirriculum this year, namely Climate Action and Drama Studies.

ASTI President and St.Joseph’s Kilkee Community College teacher Geraldine O’Brien has been telling Clare FM’s Daragh Dolan that the focus must turn to effectively manage AI in the education process.
