Clare’s Aontú Representative believes the state’s failure to discern between genuine and economic migrants is placing unnecessary pressures on local resources.
It comes as new figures released to the party have revealed that 677 International Protection Applicants are now residing in this county.
Clare is also hosting the fourth highest total of Ukrainian refugees nationwide and later today Leo Varadkar is expected to consult cabinet on plans to provide extra funding and resources for the ten districts with the largest Asylum Seeker populations.
Aontú MidWest PRO Eric Nelligan has been telling Clare FM’s Daragh Dolan though that the measures do not go far enough to tackle the true scale of the issue.
