Clare Animal Welfare has expressed frustration, after a substantial sum of money was stolen from the charity’s bank account.

The organisation says 4,000 euro was taken by two adult websites, through payment services provider Stripe.

Stripe has told Clare FM that as a general rule, it doesn’t comment on individual users, but that detailed information on fraud prevention and what steps businesses can take is available on its website.

Clare Animal Welfare says the money in the account was lodged off the back of donations, which are used to pay vet bills, with considerable vet bills outstanding to pay.

Treasurer Stiofán MacGabhann trusts that the money will be recouped, but says the process is drawn out and frustrating and he says it’s upsetting for the people who support animals in need of care.
