Clare Among Counties With Lowest Capital Investment Spend In Schools

Clare schools have been near the back of the class when seeking capital investment over recent years.

€55.5 million has been spent in the county’s primary and post primary schools in the past eight years, higher than only five other counties.

Carlow, Monaghan, Cavan, Offaly, Laois, Kilkenny and Waterford all have smaller populations than Clare.

However, each of those counties also saw more money than Clare in capital investments in their schools from 2010-2017.figures show how more money was spent on school in each of those county than in Clare from 2010-2017.

The newly-released government figures cover primary and post primary schools, which saw an investment of just over 55.5 million euro in Clare over that eight year period.

The money covers buildings, equipment and furnishings, and the total nationwide spend in this time was over 3.6 billion.

Last year’s total of just under 14 million euro in Clare was the highest school capital allocation of recent times.

The Department says the 55 million euro spent here allowed for 1,084 additional school places to come on stream, along with 936 replacement places.
