Clare Among Counties With Low Rates Of COVID-19

Clare has been highlighted as one of the counties with the lowest rates of COVID-19 in Ireland.

A CSO analysis of infections has found that Clare is among eleven counties that have now registered fewer than 10 new cases of the virus for at least four weeks.

The CSO data differs from the daily figures from the Department of Health in that they reflect the first dates in which someone could have had COVID-19, rather than the date in which the case is formally registered.

With regards to the figures for Clare, that makes a big difference.

The HSPC’s data showed 124 cases were registered here in May, but these figures reveal that no more than 55 of these were newly-diagnosed.

It had already been known that many cases were reclassified into Clare.

The CSO figures show the virus peaked here at the end of April, when 100 cases were diagnosed.

Since then, weekly amounts of 21, 15, 7, 7 and less than five have been recorded.

Last week then showed zero diagnoses, but that figure is provisional.

Only Donegal, Laois, Kerry, Sligo and Waterford have had more weeks with fewer than ten new cases of COVID-19.
