A Clare sex abuse survivor has labelled the current judicial process for cases of gender based violence as ‘disturbing’.
It comes as survivors of gender based violence have unveiled a 10 point plan for reforming the justice system which include outlawing character references in court and introducing a domestic violence register.
People Before Profit TD, Ruth Coppinger, is also to bring forward a motion in the Dáil, calling for alterations to the national strategy on gender-based violence.
Louise Bailey says character references for perpetrators are misrepresentative, claiming friends are ill informed to give an accurate representation of a person’s temperament.
