Claims That Local Authority Legal Cost Disproportionately High

It's claimed that Clare County Council's legal costs are disproportionately high compared to other local authorities.

Councillor Clare Colleran Molloy is commenting as new figures show over  2.8 million euro has been paid out in respect of 220 compensation claims made since the beginning of 2014.

The money in question comes from IPB, the insurer of local authorities but, in the same time, premiums paid to this group by the local authority have amounted to nearly 3.1 million euro, an amount greater than the payouts themselves.

Clare County Council has committed to investigating the issue, which Councillor Colleran-Molloy insists is a necessity.
