It’s feared the future of West Clare will be beyond repair unless roads funding inequality is urgently addressed.
Despite comprising 31% of the county’s road network, the Kilrush Electoral Area has been provisionally allocated just 25% of the municipal road works budget for the coming year.

By contrast, the Ennis and Shannon Electoral Areas are set to receive 15% and 14% of the total €18m funding pool respectively, despite each accounting for just 9% of the county’s road network.
Kilkee Fianna Fáil Councillor Cillian Murphy believes it’s a clear example of rural discrimination.
