It’s claimed periodic speed limits are urgently needed in a South Clare village to prevent road traffic collisions.
A new RSA report has revealed that 658 children were injured or killed in crashes in the last five years.
Clare County Council is currently progressing pilot schemes that will see periodic 30km/h speed limits imposed in Cratloe and Kilrush during designated school drop-off and pick-up times.
It comes as the Road Safety Authority has issued a plea to motorists to take caution as children return to school.
In the last five years alone, 38 children were killed on Irish roads, while a further 620 were seriously injured.
Cratloe National School Principal Susan Frawley says their area is particularly problematic during term time.
Clare County Council is accepting public submissions on new speed limits until 5pm this Monday.
