Claims Mainstream Schools ‘Need To Be Ready’ For Increase In Students With Special Education Needs

A Disability and Children’s rights professor says it is critical that schools in Clare adopt supportive culture to students with special needs.

The National Association for Boards of Management of Special Education, will host its annual conference of 330 member schools nationwide next week.

The organisation offers support and advice on the provision of special eductaion in schools, of which there are currently six members in Clare.

Professor of Disability and Children’s rights at QUB, Bronagh Byrne, insists that given the increase in children with special education needs attending mainstream schools, a safe and supportive environment must be facilitated.
