It's claimed that locals in Ennistymon and tourists alike will suffer after plans to deal with long-standing traffic problems at Blake's Corner have been rejected.
Plans which include the construction of a new bridge 80 metres upstream from the existing Ennistymon Bridge on the N67, have been described by Transport Infrastructure Ireland as an "interim solution".
The TII believes the two-phase plan "doesn’t cater for long term growth or vulnerable road user demands".
Clare County Council says the project Steering Committee will now try to identify solutions to the specific areas of concern.
Councillor Bill Slattery says a permanent solution must be put in place
