It’s claimed hidden homelessness is becoming a problem in rural Clare due to a lack of practically situated homeless accommodation.
The latest homeless figures released by the Department of Housing reveal the number of people availing of emergency accommodation across Clare and Limerick has risen by 8% in the twelve months leading up to June.
However, while Ireland as a whole has hit a record homeless level of 12,600 people, the number of adults declared as homeless in this county has remained relatively stable at 61 in June of this year compared to 60 last year.
CEO of MidWest Simon, Jackie Bonfield, has been telling Clare FM’s Seán Lyons more joined-up thinking is required regarding the provision of emergency accommodation in this county.
