Claims “giveaway budget” could be on the way

There could be a giveaway budget in store later this year.

A report in today's Sunday Business Post claims the Government could have as much as two billion Euro extra to spend.

It says the Finance Minister will plan for a deficit of between 1 and 1-point-five per cent of GDP next year – which means he'll have scope for more tax cuts and spending increases.

October's budget will come just months before the next general election, however the size of the giveaway will depend on continuing economic recovery.

The Government's Spring Statement, which will lay out predictions for growth, will be released on April 21st.
