Claims Drugs Use Has Spiralled Out Of Control In Clare

It’s claimed the scourge of drugs use has spread to all corners of Clare, and not just the main urban centres.

Sixmilebridge Councillor Alan O’Callaghan, who’s a member of the Joint Policing Committee, is commenting in light of new figures which show there’s only four full-time Gardaí working in the county’s drugs unit.

The number is one of the lowest of any county in Ireland, and stands at its lowest level in recent years, in spite of recent concerns about the impact of drugs use in different parts of Clare.

The policing of drugs nationally is led by the National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, aided by the likes of the Criminal Assets Bureau but Fianna Fáil Councillor O’Callaghan says there’s a need for increased resources locally.
