It’s been claimed that retailers across Clare need Government support to pay their rent.
Ennis-based lobby group Retail Excellence Ireland want landlords to adopt a payment model based on a percentage of turnover during the COVID-19 pandemic.
It had initially been feared 100,000 retail jobs may have been at risk at the onset of the virus outbreak – though this has been somewhat offset as online sales have increased by 200% since this time last year.
Managing Director of Retail Excellence Duncan Graham has been telling me that businesses in towns like Ennis are holding up well – but warns they need Government support.
