Claims That Clare Residents Being Ineligible For Pyrite Remediation Programme Amounts To ‘Discrimination’

It’s claimed that Clare residents not being eligible to apply for the Government’s pyrite remediation programme amounts to ‘discrimination’.

A number of households across Parteen, Crusheen and other parts of the county say they have large cracks and holes around their homes caused by the mineral.

Pyrite is a common material but when mixed with moisture and air can cause back-fill under concrete to swell, crack and crumble.

Currently the redress scheme – the Pyrite Resolution Board – only caters for properties in Dublin, Kildare, Meath or Offaly.

Dr Martina Cleary, who has established the Clare Pyrite Action Group, says this county not being eligible for the scheme is ‘absurd’.
