Sinn Fein Councillor Mike McKee is calling for landlords who don't comply with the law to be identified, with proceedings take against them.
The Shannon Councillor's proposal received the backing of a number of other representatives, however some expressed concern over pursuing landlords who its claimed are already struggling financially.
Councillor McKee says landlords can't be allowed to pick and choose the laws they comply with.
