It’s feared several beekeepers in Clare would be decimated if the Government rushes through a proposed import ban.
Legislation to prevent the import of non-native honey bees is currently at the second stage in the Dáil, having received Seanad approval in 2024.

Irish Beekeper Organisations have consistently called for the measure to be introduced to protect the Irish honeybee from crossbreeding.
Member of Clare’s Biodiversity Forum Ennis Fianna Fáil Councillor Clare Colleran-Molloy says introducing the law without due research could severely punish responsible keepers in this county and their livelihoods.
