The Clare Older People’s Council says public transport in rural areas must be improved in order to cater for the county’s growing older population.

Data from the most recent census shows the number of people over 65 in Clare has increased by 23% since the last census was taken in 2016 and now stands at 21,657.

Public transport has been raised as an issue in rural areas due to the alleged low number of bus stops in some places which poses a barrier to older people’s use of bus services.
