Claims Authorities Are “Massaging” Figures After Reduction In Social Housing List

The Chair of Clare’s housing committee has accused the authorities of “massaging figures”, following a reduction in the county’s housing list.

As part of the 2018 Social Housing Need Assessment, local authorities have been directed by the Department of Housing to remove those on HAP or RAS schemes from the list to provide a more accurate account of the housing requirement.

As a result, the Council now states that there are 1,047 people on the housing waiting list in Clare, and that nearly 1,500 others are being supported in rented accomodation, or seeking a different Council home than the one they are already in.
