It comes as new figures reveal the number of such accidents is on the up this year, and how this is costing drivers everywhere

Beween January and June, there were 18 accidents in Clare involving an uninsured or untraceable driver.

The number here is identical to last year, but nationally there has been a 17% rise in such accidents to over 1,600.

The Motor Insurers' Bureau says it's likely to increase rising motor insurance premium levels even further.

Today's statistics will likely anger motorists who have already been dealing with rising insurance premiums this year.

Ennis area Fianna Fáil Councillor Tom McNamara is among those who has raised concerns about insurance costs.

He thinks this hike in prices is behind today's statistics.
