The government's Economic Management Council meets today to decide what to do about water charges.

They'll discuss ongoing efforts to better explain to people about water charges and exactly what will have to be paid.

But no announcement's expected after the meeting of the EMC, with Government sources saying they are determined to take time to get any new package.

It comes amid reports this morning that Irish Water has agreed to cut controversial bonus payments to staff by 4 percent.

The Irish Independent reports that workers will get a maximum performance related payment of 15 percent, but an additional bonus of 4 percent has been axed.
