Children from Chernobyl begin Irish visit

A group of Chernobyl children are spending their first day with their host families across Ireland. 

30 children arrived in Dublin Airport yesterday evening, as part of an urgent mission by Chernobyl Children International to airlift them out of Belarus and away from lethal forest fires.

The fires are spreading contaminated fumes across the region. 

To date, Chernobyl Children International has delivered nearly 100 million euro worth of humanitarian and medical aid to impoverished communities across Belarus, Ukraine and Western Russian since the nuclear disaster in 1986.
