Charges struck out against North Clare farmer

A North Clare man accused of threatening his brother and causing over 15 hundred euro worth of damage to his car has had the charges against him struck out.

At Ennis District Court last month Gus Howley, of Ballyteigue, Lisdoonvarna  pleaded guilty to threatening to his brother Michael Howley at Larakea, Kilfenora in November.

The between the two north Clare brothers centred on missing life savings of 20 thousand euro that Gus Howley had loaned to his his nephew -who was now in the US.

Last month Ennis District court heard the bachelor farmer was in an aggravated state over the missing cash and went to his brother’s home threatening to kill him and breaking all the windows in his car-

Judge Patrick Durcan adjourned the case to allow peace talks between the two sides and this week Gardaí told the court  there was " white smoke" arising from the negotiations and that Gus Howley had apologised to his brother and had brought some money to compensate for the damaged car.

Judge Durcan commended the brothers for making up and struck out the charges allow Gus Howley to walk free from court.
