Charges over Ennis Primary School incident struck out

A case against three people charged over an incident outside a Ennis Primary School where a slash hook was allegedly produced, has been struck out.

Judge Patrick Durcan made the order at Ennis District Court over the DPP’s failure to provide directions in the case.

During the alleged incident on March 20th at the Holy Family School two brothers barricaded themselves in to a classroom, with young children present- as they fled from a number of other individuals.

It followed an initial altercation on the outskirts of the school during which a slash hook was allegedly produced.

Gardaí then arrested three people –

21 Conor Mahon of Ballaghboy halting site, Quin Rd, Ennis was charged with being in possession of an offensive weapon, a slash hook and a breach of public order.

His wife, 22 year old Rose Mahon and his sister in law Laura Molly of 21, An Pairc, Bruach na hAbhainn, were both charged with causing criminal damage and public order breaches.

The case was subsequently adjourned several times for DPP directions and yesterday Judge Patrick Durkan struck out the charges stating that the matter had gone on and on.
