The Chair of Clare County Council's Housing and Planning Committee insists that there needs to be structures on the ground before any improvement in the social housing list is seen.
The Minister for Housing has approved site locations for over 450 new social housing units across the country, with between 50 and 60 of those to be delivered in Shannon East, through public private partnership.
Local Independent Councillor, Gerry Flynn has described the announcement as vague, saying Shannon East could be anywhere from the town to the border of Limerick City.
There's 640 people on the social housing list in the Shannon Municipal District and Councillor Flynn says it will take some time before the impact of this type of announcement is felt in the area.
