The Chair of Retailers Of Ennis Group is warning that businesses will ‘go to the wall’ following a rise in rates.
The Valuation Office is currently posting proposed valuation certificates to companies in Clare, which the local authority will use to calculate commercial rates.
John O’Connor of Custy’s Music Shop in Ennis says a recent meeting of local retailers heard how one businesses was sent a proposed 400% increase in their property valuation.
John says the difficulties faced by businesses over the past three years has already seen many close and fears this rates hike could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.
