A man has gone on trial in Ennis charged with the rape of a woman at her home in County Clare last year.
The 29 year old Clare man, who cannot be named for legal reasons has pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault against the woman, before the Central Criminal Court, sitting in Ennis today.
A jury of eight men and four women was impanelled at the Central Criminal Court sitting at Ennis courthouse before Mr Justice Paul Carney this morning, in the trial of the 29 year old local man who’s accused of the two counts of rape and the sexual assault against a Clare woman at her home on January 14th 2011.
The accused has pleaded Not Guilty to the three charges and Counsel for the State, Brendan Grehan told the court that the trial is expected to take four days and will run into next week.
The trial today heard the opening statement from the prosecution today before adjourning until Thursday when the complainant is expected to give her evidence.
