Central Bank issues new consumer protection measures

 

The Central Bank has introduced new measures to protect consumers in their dealings with financial institutions.

The measures are part of a new statutory code governing banks, insurance companies, investment companies  and brokers.

The code will include rules to prevent banks from harassing borrowers who are in arrears with their loans.

Institutions must also refrain from selling financial products to people who are not suited to the product.
