4.5% of Clare residents classified themselves as carers in last year’s census, one of the highest figures nationwide.

These 5300 people collectively spend 174,000 hours giving care each week – 148 of them are under the age of 15.

The latest census results, which focuses on our health, shows that one in eight Clare residents, or nearly 14,800 people in the county said they had a disability when surveyed last April.

The most common disabilities are people with pain, breathing or another chronic illness or a difficulty with basic physical activities.

Yet despite this, 59% of people here say they have very good health and another 30% say’re in good health, both broadly in line with the national average.
