Carey Says Shelving Of Limerick-Cork Motorway Was “Regrettable”

A Clare Fine Gael TD has described as "regrettable" the decision to shelve a major roads project in the region five years ago.

Joe Carey is commenting following the announcement of 1 million euro in funding towards reactivating the planning process for the Limerick – Cork motorway, which was scrapped in 2011 due to economic pressures.

Transport Minister Shane Ross has recently indicated that he anticipates the project will be included in the Mid-Term Capital Review, following which it's hoped that the 800 million euro project will be given the go ahead.

Deputy Carey says that if the Government is serious about balanced regional development, the route must be built:
