Carey Misses Out On Election To Seanad

Leonora Carey has come up short in her bid to secure a seat in the Seanad.

Carey, who ran for Fine Gael in the recent general election, was aiming to secure a place on the Labour Panel of the upper house of the Oireachtas.

19 candidates were in contention for the 11 seats on the panel, with the Clarecastle native securing 51,000 first preference votes.

However, She was eliminated from contention following the twelfth count, after amassing 64,000 votes total votes, falling short of the quota of 95,751.
